The other night was interesting to say the least. I just feel like I have to tell the world about it because nothing like this would ever happen in the states. My home was invaded by safari ants. These ants are not your typical tiny ants that aimlessly wander these ants are always on a mission going from one place to another. This time their destination led straight through my house. Luckily I had not gone to sleep yet because if I had it would have been much worse but it was still a battle. They were just starting to enter my house when I noticed them coming under the door. I used the last of the raid that I had to kill the buggers that were inside but they just kept coming. When I opened the door it looked like the ground outside was moving there were sooo many. It was time to pull out the big guns and as my Dad would say go Medieval on their asses. I decided to take the broom to protect the threshold and heat up some hot oil to dump on them from the battlements (alright it was just hot water but hot oil sounded better and more Medieval). Then as my threshold was getting better I decided to jump into the fray and try to cut them off at the source, man was that a mistake. That is when they decided to start attacking me back. They bite and it hurts a lot especially the big ones which have been used to suture wounds closed in the past. I screamed like a little girl and have the welts to prove it. Eventually the ants calmed down and I was able to go back into my house and stuff something under the door to try to keep out the ones that might want to get back in. It was an exciting night and the battle ended up lasting the better part of an hour. I succeed in protecting my house!
Other than that my week has been fairly uneventful. Been teaching physics and life skills. The form 1′s have finally started to arrive although there are only 6 here so far and we are expecting 80-90. Also played some frisbee and ran with the girls cross-country team and let me tell you they are fast. I also have officially run out of hard copy books to read onto the 500 more that I have on my computer!
Here are some pictures of something that I made for class to signify a beam and rays that are contained within and some of my new kitchen table! Also some pictures from around the yard. My next post will include the tour and pictures from the trip that I’m taking to Wundanyi this weekend.
